UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN River Falls

Automated External Defibrillators

In the time it takes you to read this information, sudden cardiac arrest will have claimed another victim. Statistics show that more than 200,000 Americans die of sudden cardiac arrest every year. Up to 50,000 of these deaths could have been prevented if someone had initiated the Cardiac Chain of Survivallink, and an automated external defibrillator (AED) had been available for immediate use at the time of the emergency.

Don't wait for the next class to learn how to use an AED!

UWRF uses the "Heartstart Onsite Defibrillator" in all AED locations on campus. (Only adult shock pads are available in the defibrillators, with the exception of the C.H.I.L.D. Center, which has pediatric shock pads.)  Below is a You Tube video that can prepare you to save a life if you spare just over 12 minutes to view the demonstration on using the Onsite AED.
