Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (WiSTEM) is a unique living and learning community for first year female students who plan on pursuing majors in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. WiSTEM creates purposeful links among the academic, residential, and social elements of the undergraduate experience. During the year, students will share some General Education courses and can select from an assortment of STEM classes that apply to their major.
Program Considerations: Because of specific program requirements, the following majors are NOT encouraged to participate in the WiSTEM Learning Community:
Mathematics - Secondary Education
Environmental Science
The following General Education courses are required of participants in the WiSTEM Learning Community:
Fall Semester (6 credits)
ENGL 100 (Academic Reading and Writing) - meets "CW" requirement of Goal One
Students will also select one or more additional STEM course:
MATH 166 (Calculus I)
CHEM 121 (General Chemistry I)
CHEM 130 (Introduction to Organic Chemistry)
PHYS 151 (Algebra-Based Physics I)
PHYS 161 (Calculus-Based Physics I)
BIOL 150 (General Biology)
Spring Semester (6 credits)
WGST 200 (Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies) - meets "American Cultural Diversity" requirement
COMS 101 (Fundamentals of Oral Communication) -meets "CS" requirement for Goal One
