Bachelor of Applied Science

Our Bachelor of Applied Science in computer science provides a way for individuals who have associate’s degrees in this area to continue their education and obtain a bachelor’s degree.

Research has shown that individuals with a bachelor's degree have increased earning potential and better career opportunities. This degree is the newest of several degree completion programs offered by UWRF to meet the higher education needs of working adults throughout western Wisconsin and the Twin Cities. Market analysis predicts strong job growth in this occupational area. 

Who Should Enroll

  • Individuals with an associate's degree in computer science or a related field
  • Individuals who have made significant  progress toward completing a degree from an accredited higher-education institution and have work experience in computer science or a related field

Program Curriculum

The curriculum includes 29-30 credits from university general education courses and 30-31 credits from core courses in  computer science.  Applicants who bring in fewer than 60 credits from a previous degree plan will need to take additional courses.

Transferring Credit 

Credit will be awarded for college-level course work completed at accredited institutions. While general education credits are generally accepted from two-year colleges, this new program makes it possible for students to receive university credit for technical and work specific courses as well. CSIS 215 Information Systems for Business Management, 3 cr.
CSIS 225 Web Development I, 3 cr.
CSIS 247 Introduction to Computer Networks, 3 cr.
CSIS 333 Database Management Systems, 3 cr.

Directed Electives, 9 cr.

To be selected from 200-400 CSIS courses in consultation with advisor.

Required Supporting Math Course

MATH 146 College Algebra, 3 cr.


Tuition Fees and Financial Aid

All students will pay $300 per credit plus campus fees for classes, regardless of where they live. Students who meet the course load minimums for full-time or part-time status may also be eligible for financial aid. Learn more from our Financial Aid office.

Admissions Process and Requirements

To begin their program, students must apply for study at UWRF as an undergraduate transfer student. Apply onlinelink.

  • Associate degrees of Applied Science, Science or Arts in a study area related to computer science or evidence of significant progress made toward an associate's or bachelor's degree in this area
  • Minimum combined grade point average of 2.25 for college credits taken
  • Completed online application for undergraduate study and paid application fee prior to the fall or spring term
  • Transcripts sent directly from previous institutions to our Admissions Office
