Our Program

AccountingThe accounting job market is fabulous and the field is almost recession-proof. Accountants are respected by other business people. Entry level accounting workers advance quickly into positions of higher responsibility and salary. Opportunities for entrepreneurship and self-employment are boundless. Accounting measures and communicates business performance information, encouraging investment activity, creating new jobs, and helping the economy to achieve sustainable growth. Accountants are the financial gatekeepers of the business world. Businesses recognize that accounting is fundamental to overall strategic success and its practitioners are uniquely positioned for leadership roles. 

As part of the UW-River Falls Accounting program, graduates will be able to:

  • Use financial statements to make decisions.AACSB
  • Help managers make decisions using internal and external information.
  • Evaluate accounting systems.
  • File tax returns for individuals and businesses.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing.

UW-River Falls Accounting students begin with the lower division business course requirements and then move on to the upper-level financial, managerial, systems/auditing, and tax accounting courses after being admitted to the College of Business and Economics.

Internships

Junior and Senior Accounting students participate in internships and undergraduate research projects. Student volunteers provide low-income individual tax assistance in February and March. The Accounting Society student organization hosts guest speakers on a regular basis, allowing students to network and learn more about their opportunities in the field.

The College of Business and Economics is accredited by AACSB, International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). Business courses are often offered in the Wisconsin in Scotland and Experience China semester abroad programs. UW-River Falls Accounting students at take a wider range of required undergraduate Accounting courses than any other undergraduate Accounting program in the region. Students receive 'private school' instructor attention and course content, but pay very affordable public school tuition.

Accounting students may continue immediately in a MS Accounting program at several institutions in the area. After a few years of experience, Accounting students will be qualified for any MBA program.
