The University of Wisconsin-Music Department presents a band concert on Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. The Symphony Band will perform Persichetti's Symphony, plus the exciting music of Lord of the Rings by Johan de Meij. Lord of the Rings is celebrating its 25th year of success around the world with thousands of performances in 2013. The University Band, directed by Dr. Gary Bird, will perform Latina by Frank Bencriscutto, Nimord by Edward Elgar, Incantation and Dance by John Barnes Chance plus Henry Fillmores' feature Lassus Trombone.
A collage of sound will feature Anna Marie Wytko, saxophone as the centerpiece. Wytko is an internationally acclaimed musician representing Kansas State University. Special works will include the Carnival of Venice, Serenade by the late U of M band leader Frank Bencriscutto, and Diversion for Alto Saxophone and Band by Bernhard Heiden. Sponsored by the Yamaha Corporation, Wytko is a virtuoso on the saxophone and studied with saxophone giant Dr. Eugene Rousseau, currently in his 60th year of teaching and at the University of Minnesota.
