UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN River Falls

Internship Program

The basics

As a Marketing Communications major, you are required to complete a 2-4 credit hour internship and/or cooperative work experience.

  • You are responsible for identifying the specific internship site for the cooperative work experience or internship.

  • Your academic adviser, course professors, and the Marketing Communications internship coordinator can suggest appropriate opportunities to pursue, but the Marketing Communications unit does not maintain a list of employers who will always be willing to take interns.

  • Many employers have formal, competitive internship programs while others are willing to create internship opportunities for an individual student or project.

Options

  • College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) cooperative work experiences are listed as MARC 279. Each may be taken for a maximum of one credit per semester. The student should have completed Principles of Marketing Communications (MarComm 200) and some core requirements in the major.

  • College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) internships are listed as MarComm 379 and may be taken for two, three or four credits. Forty-five hours on the job can translate to one credit; 135 hours equals 3 credits. A prospective intern should have completed most core and elective requirements in the major.

  • College of Business and Economics (CBE) internships use the CAS internship registration.

  • College of Ag, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) internships are listed as Ag Education 270/370 or Ag Economics 270/370 and may be taken for two or four credit.
