INFORMATION SYSTEMS (IS) DATA SERVICES SPECIALIST

Location: This position is located on the Enterprise Applications and Services team within the Division of Information Technology Services at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Salary: Starting salary is between $54,331 to $85,000 per year, depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A six-month probationary period is required. The pay schedule/range is 07-02. This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
Job Duties: Administer Oracle databases and database management technology and plan, build and support Oracle databases for UWRF application software. Position will establish and support overall database access methodologies; provide expert direction to staff; and provide data services and consulting responsibilities. Duties include directing, guiding, and consulting on technical issues related to PeopleSoft software and administration of that software; installing, supporting, and upgrading the PeopleSoft software and maintaining the PeopleSoft application, web, and process scheduler servers on Unix and Windows platforms. Will have responsibility for installation, upgrades, and maintenance of the People Tools environment for developers and consultants. Position may require occasional early morning, evening and weekend hours based on task demand.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidates must have a thorough knowledge of Oracle versions 10gR2/11gR2 (RMAN, Data Guard, ASM, AWR, ADDM, OEM Grid Control), Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and 2008; PeopleSoft 9 and People Tools 8.5; proficiency in DBMS jobs/schedulers; knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, MSSQL stored procedures and triggers, and shell scripting in Unix and Windows environments; and an understanding of Oracle Applications design principles (physical and logical) and architecture. Must have exceptional troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills and an understanding of networking concepts. Must have experience in the following areas: monitoring tools and techniques; database backup tools and techniques; and capacity planning, performance tuning, optimization, and disaster recovery. Must have teamwork/collaboration skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; have attention to detail and organization; be able to be flexible and work analytically in a problem-solving environment; and balance and prioritize own activities to ensure critical items are addressed. Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field; three to five years' experience with enterprise system databases; and information technology career experience in higher education preferred.
