LOCATION: The University of Wisconsin-River Falls currently has a full-time Electrician vacancy in Facilities Management.
SALARY: Starting rate of pay is $36.668 to $37.857 per hour, depending on leave time selected. The cost of employer-paid benefits, except optional health insurance, has been deducted. This classification is included in the Building Trades Bargaining Unit. A six-month probationary period is required. (Pay Schedule 04, Pay Range 00)
JOB DUTIES: Position provides electrical service to the entire University community – repair, preventive maintenance and modification to existing fixtures and systems; installation of new equipment and systems; and outside lighting and high voltage work. This position will be required to perform emergency, overtime and call-in work as required to repair and maintain campus electrical systems in excess of the normal shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday).
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Thorough knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices of the electrician trade; state and national electrical codes; and major types of electrical installations, common and unusual breakdowns, and standard repair procedures. Ability to incorporate and follow all safety guidelines/rules (e.g. Electrical Arc Flash Compliance, Lockout-Tagout, OSHA, Department of Commerce) into work processes. Knowledge and ability to identify, inspect, and perform maintenance to high voltage cable connections; perform maintenance on the systems back-up batteries. Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade. Ability to read requisitions and receive information; ability to read English language sufficiently to read and understand construction documents (i.e., blueprints); and the ability to read work orders, printed history pages and schedules from the energy Management System, hazardous substance warnings, installation and repair manuals, and equipment operating instructions. Must be able to orally communicate effectively with others using the English language, in person or over the telephone, with or without the use of auxiliary aids, in order to convey information. Able to enter, exit, and perform duties in confined spaces in order to correct problems; perform duties within extreme temperature ranges so as to do necessary outdoor maintenance in the summer and winter; work in special clothing and common protective safety attire; perform physical labor including: heavy lifting (75#), bending, stooping, twisting and other motions; and work with arms above head for extended periods of time. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment; and work from a bucket truck, extension ladders up to 40' and step ladders up to 14'.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must have completed a state approved apprenticeship or be recognized as a Journey-worker Electrician by an appropriate authority or have documented training and experience equivalent to a formal apprenticeship. Must be able to obtain a valid driver's license and authorization to drive a university vehicle and pass a post-offer pre-employment screen prior to appointment.
