What happens when a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday?

If a holiday falls on a Saturday (or your regular day off), then you will receive legal holiday time to use at another time (floating holiday), much like vacation. It will show up on your earning statement under LH as part of the balance. For Classified employees, these hours must be used by December 31st of the year earned or they will be lost.  For Unclassified employees, these hours must be used by the end of the fiscal year, June 30th, of the year earned or they will be lost.

If the legal holidays of January 1, July 4 or December 25 fall on Sunday, the legal holiday is observed and the UW is closed on the following Monday.

Full-time employees earn eight hours of leave for each legal holiday. Part-time employees earn a pro-rated amount based on their appointment percentage.
