Theme Communities are also offered as living community type choices:
As a new student, we invite you to participate in one of our residential learning communities. Learning Community members choose to live in the same residence hall and take several classes with their floor members. As a Learning Community participant, we'll help you transition through academic and social challenges by providing a small, supportive living and learning environment. You can expect to interact closely with UWRF faculty, staff, and students. You will develop lasting relationships that will shape your undergraduate experience.
"To me the learning community is a great way to transition from high school to college. While it has a college atmosphere. Going to class with most of my hall mates makes classes more enjoyable, if you have a question the person living right next to you may have the answer. It also makes going to classes easier because your hall mates help make sure you are up and ready to go. It was very easy to make friends right away on the learning community, I have made friends that I will never forget. I would highly recommend being in the learning community to incoming freshmen."
— Dan, Learning Community resident

As a new student you have the opportunity to find your own roommate! This is a step in our housing contract process.
Roommates are assigned by biological sex. Students in transition with special needs should contact the Department of Residence Life by February 1 prior to the term they will be enrolling at UWRF. A limited number of accommodations with access to gender-neutral bathrooms/showers are available if arrangements are secured prior to final housing assignments.
At UW-River Falls, we do not accept requests from new students for specific residence hall buildings. The only exceptions are the Jesse H. Ames Suites and George R. Field South Fork Suites. Students who wish to request either of these halls can be added to a Wait List by sending an e-mail to reslife@uwrf.edu
.
Jesse H. Ames Suites: To be eligible for the Jesse H. Ames Suites, students must have sophomore standing by their move-in date.
George R. Field South Fork Suites (SFS): To be eligible for SFS, students must meet one of the following requirements by the first day of classes:
There is an additional charge of $500.00 per semester for living in South Fork Suites.
Due to our continued high occupancy levels fall semester, single rooms are not available. Exceptions are only considered for extreme medical or disability reasons as verified by the Ability Services Coordinator.
