2-Year Live on Campus Requirement

When you return from your study abroad experience, you are required to live on campus unless you meet one of the Exemptions to the 2-Year Live On-Campus Requirement for that term.

Internet Access While Abroad

Keep in mind that you may have limited Internet access while abroad, so we recommend completing as many items on the checklist as possible before you leave.

Housing Contract and Meal Plan Checklist

(Perform these tasks during the semester before your study abroad experience)

  Studying Abroad in Fall Checklist
  • Request to have your housing deposit held
    - Send an e-mail to reslife@uwrf.edu saying you will be studying abroad, and asking us to hold your deposit for the semester when you return to UWRF.
  • Cancel your Housing Contract for Spring semester only
    - Enter the Housing & Meal Plan Portal toward the end of Fall semester, enter your completed contract, select the "No Meal Plan" option to cancel and list "studying abroad for a semester" as the reason.
  • Cancel your Meal Plan Contract for Spring semester only
    - Enter the Housing & Meal Plan Portal toward the end of Fall semester, enter the Spring Meal Plan contract and cancel it saying you're studying abroad during Spring semester.
  • Sign a Housing Contract for the following Fall semester
    - Enter the Housing & Meal Plan Portal, sign Housing contract.
  • Sign a Meal Plan Contract for the following Fall semester
    - Enter the Housing & Meal Plan Portal, sign Fall Meal Plan contract.
  • Request to have your housing deposit held
    - Send an e-mail to reslife@uwrf.edu saying you will be studying abroad, and asking us to hold your deposit for the semester when you return to UWRF
  • Sign a Spring semester only Housing Contract in early October
    Enter the Housing & Meal Plan Portal, sign Housing contract.
  • Sign up for a Spring semester Meal Plan in early October
    - Enter the Housing & Meal Plan Portal, sign Spring Meal Plan contract.


Requesting to have your housing deposit held

When you study abroad, you have the option of requesting that your housing deposit be held by Res Life so that, when you return to on-campus living for the following term, you may easily sign-up for housing, and you may avoid paying the $25.00 Non-Refundable Service Fee (NRSF) a second time.

 

What if I don’t ask to have my housing deposit held?

If you do not ask that your housing deposit be held, you will automatically receive a refund of your housing deposit once the term before your study abroad semester is complete. You will then be required to pay the $175.00 housing deposit and NRSF if you return to on-campus living after studying abroad.

 

Living in the suites when you return to UWRF

If you wish to live in Jesse H. Ames Suites (Ames Suites) or George R. Field South Fork Suites (SFS) when you return to UWRF, you must meet the eligibility requirements listed on the Ames Suites and for SFS pages.

Ames Suites and SFS Wait Lists: Ask to be added to the Wait List for either of these halls by sending an e-mail to reslife@uwrf.edu. Include your Student ID in that e-mail request.
