China Study Tour with Dr. Yang

This study tour will allow its participants to explore Chinese history, culture, and the impact of industrialization and globalization on China and its traditions.  By visiting the following cities, the participants will also have the opportunity to see the amazing landscape of China and major historical sites of world’s most continuous civilization:

  • Beijing: capital city of China and where the tour members will visit the Great Wall, and the site of 2008 Summer Olympic Games
  • Shanghai: one of the financial centers in Asia and a city where Chinese and Western cultures fuse
  • Hangzhou: center of China’s silk industry and tea production, one of the ancient capitals of China and famous for its picturesque West Lake
  • Wuzhen: a scenic water town in southern China possessing a cultural heritage of more than 1000 years
  • Nanjing: Nationalist capital before 1949 and a historical city situated on the southern bank of the Yangtze River
  • Xian: ancient capital for several Chinese dynasties, eastern terminus of the Silk Road, and where Terra-Cotta Warriors were excavated in the 1970s

 Cost: $2,830 (estimated) including—

  • International round-trip flights from Minneapolis to Shanghai
  • All breakfast, most lunches and dinners, hotels, and services in China (hotel accommodation is based on double occupancy in four-star hotels)
  • Transportation by private coach, turbo jet boat and first-class express train in China
  • Admission to museums and historical sites
  • Chinese visa application
  • Group gratuities

  • Insurance premium of $37
  • UWRF international program fee of $275

Listed as HIST 371 in university course catalog, this study tour can be taken as a 3-credit course to satisfy history major/minor electives, liberal arts, and international study major/minor requirements. Students who will take this course for credits can apply for financial assistance.
