Mathematical Progressions through Habits of Mind
Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Grant Award
UWRF math education student Chelsea Nelson explains how she reached an answer to a math task as part of the Mathematical Progressions through Habits of Mind project. Nelson is one of eight UWRF math education students participating as apprentices in this new three-year math grant which works with grades 2-9 math teachers on the implementation of the Common Core Math Standards. The project kicked off on campus over the weekend with approximately 25 participants on Friday and 90 on Saturday. This is a federally funded grant awarded to UWRF faculty members Dr. Erick Hofacker, Dr. Kathryn Ernie, Dr. Susan Ahrendt and from UW-Eau Claire Dr. Sherrie Serros through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. EPA Awards Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Grant to Monitor Coastal Wetlands
US Environmental Protection Agency Grant Award
The U.S Environmental Protection Agency announced that Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, has received a $10 million Great Lakes Restoration Initiative grant to monitor coastal wetlands around the Great Lakes basin over the next five years. This project expands an existing GLRI grant to the university for Great Lakes wetlands monitoring.
Dr. Joe Gathman from UWRF is a collaborator and project team member of this grant award. Dr. Gathman is an Assistant Professor in Biology. His academic specializations include Wetland and Aquatic Ecology, Invertebrate Zoology, and Evolutionary Biology.
