CHINA STUDY TOUR December 27, 2011 – January 10, 2012
This study tour will allow its participants to explore Chinese history, culture, and the impact of industrialization and globalization on China and its traditions. By visiting the following cities, the participants will also have the opportunity to see the amazing landscape of China and the major historical sites of one of the world’s most continuous civilizations:
Beijing:political and cultural center of Chinese Empire during the Ming and Qing dynasties and capital city of modern China. It is also the city where the tour participants will visit the Great Wall, symbol of Chinese civilization;
Luoyang:one of the capitals for traditional China and a center of Buddhist culture where the famous Longmen Grottoes are located;
Xian:ancient capital for several Chinese dynasties—including the Tang dynasty, eastern terminus of the Silk Road. It is also the home of Terra-Cotta Warriors that were excavated in the 1970s;
Suzhou:center of China's silk industry and a city famous for its classical Chinese gardens built during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644);
Wuzhen:a scenic water town in southern China with a history of more than 1000 years; and
Shanghai:one of the financial centers in East Asia and a city where Chinese and Western cultures combine.
