Grounds Maintenance

The primary responsibility of Grounds Maintenance is to maintain a safe and attractive outdoor environment to meet the needs of the campus community. Snow and ice control, litter and trash collection, moving of equipment and furnishings between buildings, and maintenance of most outside features are functions of this department.

Grounds by the numbers:

  • 120 acres of turf, landscaping, and other outdoor areas
  • 40 acres of athletic and intramural fields
  • 3.5 acres of flower and shrub beds and a large, diverse tree population
  • 25 acres of protected land (native prairie restoration or floodplain/wetland areas)
  • 10 miles of sidewalks, 22.5 acres of parking lots (2400 spaces)
  • 3 miles of streets
  • 2 miles of trails
