Call for Submissions
March 8 – March 9, 2013
The AMSLC Committee at UWRF invites submissions from undergraduate students for the 2013 AMSLC meeting to be held on the campus of the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Submissions that focus on the convention theme, “Be Brilliant; Be Bold; Be the Change,” are welcomed.
We are seeking a variety of research and creative activity from multiple fields as well as a variety of submission formats. The possible formats include panels, roundtable discussion, debates, performance sessions, video/visual presentation panels, and poster sessions. Be creative in considering the “possible” submission formats.

Please work with a faculty member and proofread your abstract carefully. You cannot edit your abstract after it is submitted. If you have any questions about your submission please contact Marnisa Hofer at marnisa.hofer@uwrf.edu

It is highly recommended for you to work with a faculty mentor ahead of the actual submission process. All abstracts will undergo a rigorous review by a panel of faculty. Abstract reviewers will evaluate submissions based on the criteria listed below and will assess the overall merit. Preference will be given to submissions that relate to the AMSLC theme “Be Brilliant: Achieve individual and collective excellence through reflection. Be Bold: Empower each other to project and Be The Change.”
Only one abstract should be submitted for each presentation. An abstract is required for consideration. The submissions selected will be published in the conference program.
Include all required fields listed below when you email your abstract to marnisa.hofer@uwrf.edu.
Submission Information must include:
- First name, middle initial and last name of author and co-contributors.
- The University and academic department name where the research was conducted.
- Name of faculty mentor.
- Abstract title (will appear in the program exactly as you type it)
- Complete the abstract using appropriate upper and lower case letters.
There are special guidelines for Visual Arts, Creative Writing and Performing Arts (music, dance, theatre)
Research Submissions
Visual Arts Submissions
- If selected, work will be presented in an Art exhibit.
- Students are allowed up to three submissions.
- Include an artist statement that addresses the focus of your work and theme, medium, and dimensions (H x W for 2-D; H x W x D for 3-D), and must be 150-200 words in length.
- Upload jpeg images of your artwork (no larger than 2M)
Creative Writing Submissions
- If selected, you will have 15 minutes to perform during “Student Presentation” session.
- Must submit written material or a significant portion of a work in progress.
- Optional is a video link to a URL, or e-mail an MP3, AIFF, or WAV file containing the vocal reading (no more than 5 minutes) of written material.
Performing Arts Submissions
- If selected, you will have 15 minutes to perform during “Student Presentation” session.
- Include an artist statement that addresses the focus of your work and theme, 150-200 words in
length. Indicate if performance is an original piece or if it is an adapted version of another’s work.
- Performances can be in one of the following categories:
1. Musical performance - Students must submit a portion of performance in a video link to a URL, or e-mail an MP3, AIFF, or WAV file containing the performance (3-5 minutes).
2. Dance performance - Students must submit video link to a URL, or e-mail an MP3, AIFF, or WAV file containing the performance (3-5 minutes).
3. Theatrical or theatre performance - Students must submit video link to a URL, or e-mail an MP3, AIFF, or WAV file containing the performance (3-5 minutes).
