Desktop Pop-up Alerts

Our mass notification partner SchoolMessenger provides a desktop pop-up alerting software program. This program is a one way notification system that allows the Emergency Management Team and the University Police Department to send out notifications to campus owned computers in a matter of seconds. This notification system is in addition to the SMS text messages, emails, voice calls and the campus wide public address system. Layers of notification are essential to getting the message out.

The SchoolMessenger application will be deployed to all campus owned workstations. You will see the SchoolMessenger yellow, red, blue and purple logo appear in the system tray. Please do not disable the application, if you do then you will not receive any notifications that are published through these channels. You do have the option to uninstall the application should you choose to not receive the messages. This application is a one-way notification mechanism and does not report back any information to the server.

Notifications will occur to laptops whether they are on or off campus, all that is needed is access to the Internet to receive the notifications. Notifications via this mechanism are not possible when there is a disruption to your Internet access.

The Emergency Operations Center staff have several different channels of alerts to pick from when sending out the message. The purpose of this is to allow messages to be crafted in different ways if necessary or they also have the option to "blast" the same message to all channels.
