UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN River Falls

Classroom Technology - Single Platform

Background

On April 18, 2012, the Faculty Senate Resolution 2011-2012/11document was passed.

"Resolution from the Technology Council (Robert Coffman, Chair) for the UWRF Faculty Senate to resolve that the campus adopt the defined plan to provide a single-computer platform in all new and existing technology-enhanced classrooms by fall 2014."

Background

During these last two years, since the motion was passed, Technology Services staff have taken the necessary steps to prepare for this transition including:

  • Ensuring that all existing and new technology-enhanced classrooms have an easy to use laptop connection.
  • Encouraging faculty and staff to select a laptop computer as their primarily computer provided by the university.

Current Use

The following tables show data gathered by the classroom controller (Extron Media Link Controller 104/226).  The classrooms listed below have two computers installed in each classroom (Windows and Mac operating systems).  The classroom controllers track the number of times an individual button in a classroom has been pushed.  The finding of this data is limited to the number of counts a particular button is selected. The first table lists the counts and percentages for each classroom that currently has both a Windows and Mac computer, as well as the number of times the laptop button was pushed.  Each

Classroom Presentation Remotes Available

As the campus transitions to a single platform computer in technology-enhanced classrooms, a classroom presentation remote will no longer be provided in general access classroom computers.  Existing presentation are available to faculty and instructional staff members on a "first come, first served" basis.

Starting Wednesday, May 14, faculty and instructional staff members can visit 163 Davee Library (Computer Lab Helpdesk) to pick up a presentation remote, while they are available.
