DO identify one central contact person from the department or project to:
gather all move details & decisions from appropriate individual(s)
submit the Move Request Form to DoTS (linked below)
meet with DoTS and Facilities Management to discuss and coordinate the move details
communicate relevant details back to others involved in the move
DON'T submit multiple requests (emails) related to the move. Centralizing the request…
allows DoTS to immediately recognize that an office move is taking place.
simplifies communication about the move; there is one common reference #
helps DoTS limit their focus to getting the technology moved and working.
DO submit the moving request to DoTS at least 3 weeks in advance of the proposed move date.
Most moves require a coordination meeting, additional information gathering, involvement of several DoTS staff members and service from outside vendors.
If new equipment is required, be aware of Purchasing black-out dates and/or delivery timelines and the effect they may have on the move.
DON'T plan to make an office move between August 15 and Sept 20.
Requests that directly impact student learning always get top priority.
DoTS needs all hands on deck to properly support the start of the academic year.
DO be well prepared for moving day.
Individuals being moved should be present during it to ensure equipment is set up and working as desired, reducing the need for follow-up visits and communication.
Leave all equipment plugged into outlets and jacks prior to the move.
DON'T move technology related equipment yourself
If you think you can do the move yourself, please discuss with DoTS first.
This allows for accurate record keeping, which is a must for good customer support after the move.
DON'T plan to rely on wireless network access for offices.
FalconAir (UWRF's wireless service) was not designed to provide service to office areas. While in the office, standard wired network connections should be used.
