Halan Tran, a senior business administration-management major at UW-River Falls, has put her varied experiences on campus to good use. As the events and activities intern with the UW-River Falls Student Involvement Office, Halan has spent the year supporting an extensive schedule of campus events, programs, and engagement opportunities. Her involvement with a variety of organizations at UW-River Falls has only aided her internship experience, which she hopes will ultimately lead to a career in higher education.
How do you think this internship will help you prepare for your career?
"With
my experience on campus with involvement in different organizations and
activities, I have found my passion for working in higher education and
with college students. Therefore, this internship is an amazing
opportunity for me to get hands-on experience by coordinating events and
activities for students."
Did a UW-River Falls faculty or staff member play a role in your decision to apply for this internship?
"Audrey
Ternes, former internship manager in the College of Business and
Economics, helped me a lot with the internship process. Knowing this
internship will not only give me the experience I wanted, but also count
towards credits for my degree, it helped me decide to apply for this
internship."
Where do you see yourself in five years?
"In five years I hope to have completed my master's degree and be working in Student Affairs for a university or college."
What do you hope to gain from this internship experience?
"I
hope to improve my organizational, leadership and communication skills,
along with my professionalism. I also want to gain more insights on
working in higher education and be more confident in my career
direction.
