Collection Summary: The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education was organized in 1948, having been formed by the merger of the American Association of Teacher Colleges and two other organizations. The AACTE was the accrediting body for institutions of Teacher Education from 1948 until the function was assumed by the NCATE in the 1950’s. The AACTE has since functioned as a national voluntary organization involved in research in teacher education and the dissemination of information.
Materials found in this series include AACTE Bulletins (1966-1969), correspondence, and papers presented at the 1959 AACTE annual meeting. The River Falls Teachers College was accredited by the AACTE during the years the organization functioned as an accrediting body, and materials relating to that accreditation are also found in the series, including a 1953 evaluation report from the organization, and standards, schedules and reports to the AACTE from the Teachers College.
