The Art department's mission is to provide in-depth and comprehensive exposure to and expertise in the visual arts. The Art department provides a creative environment in which students develop aesthetic skills, conceptual thinking, visual awareness and technical expertise.
Our curriculum recognizes the value and merits of both Western and non-Western art traditions and consideration of art at both local and international levels. Students are encouraged to consider their work in the context of a global society to bring about a foundation for understanding the impact that the arts has had on the evolution of the human experience; how it relates to the growth of various civilizations and cultures around the world, reflecting societal development as well as its application to the 21st century culture and diversity in an ever-shrinking global environment.
We teach visual literacy skills with the intention of preparing our graduates for a lifetime of creative activity. Our mission is to create a foundation for dynamic exploration with outcomes that reflect personal ideas and confidence in presenting the ideas to society.
The Art department provides an environment that allows for the exploration and sharing of creative ideas, a community where students are challenged by their peers and encouraged by their instructors. Understanding the broad applicability of our Art majors, Art Minors and the essential human desire to imagine and to create, our students will be guided and trained in the mastery of technical and conceptual skills needed to become disciplined, successful professional artists, art educators, creative problem solvers and critical thinkers.
